WHO ARE WE?
A LITTLE HISTORY

DianeJeffrey We (Jeffrey and Diane) are longtime sailors. We started about twenty years ago with Quelle Affair “the learner boat”. Quelle Affaire was a 25 foot, Northstar 500, which came with 10 sails. Over the six years we owned Quelle Affaire, we never found a reason to use several of the sails. We did get to cruise with our three children to the Thousand Islands,( where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence), but to fit everyone in, we had to leave many of the sails at home.

Our second boat was an Edel 820. With this boat, we learned that we preferred to cruise in some comfort.

We had a private aft cabin in a 28 foot boat. She came with no name and so we named her Nouvelle Affaire “ the lightning boat”. It was not that Nouvelle Affaire sailed as fast as lightning, but rather that it was HIT by lightening while in dock in MCC. Lightning strikes are not logical. There were boats with much higher masts in the vicinity but they were ignored and the strike hit Nouvelle Affaire, a power boat in an adjacent slip, and another sailboat two slips away. All three boats were damaged. Nouvelle Affaire suffered the worst. All the electronics were toasted; the aluminum sections of the furling gear were welded together and the heat burned several holes in the sail. A 12 inch, roughly circular section of the hull, was burned through at the port bow, a few inches above the waterline. The good news was that all three people on board Nouvelle Affaire, including Jeffrey, were unharmed.

We did a lot of reading after that event and when we decided to start looking for our third boat, a metal hull was a definite requirement. After three years of looking we finally purchased Perce Neige.

“Perce Neige” is French for “Snowdrop”

Canadians, have a few months of cold days and in some places quite a lot of snow. The Snowdrop is the first flower to pierce the snow in early spring and likewise, our Perce Neige, will burst out of the Canadian winter and go south to bloom!
